Nominate Dana Hokana for "Living The Mission" Award

This is a rather long message, and asks for your help in nominating Dana Hokana for an award which will be given at the Quarter Horse Congress.

The page about the award states:

An annual award presented to a worthy trainer during the 2010 All American Quarter Horse Congress Masters class.

Candidates should include trainers who:
~ Make significant contributions to the equine community through
their participation in local, state and national equine organizations
~ Seek to mentor and be a role model to young trainers and/or youth
~ Are dedicated to sharing their love for the horse
~ Consider the welfare of the horse first and foremost in their pursuit
of success in the equine industry

This individual is active in their community and by way of their participation and philanthropy in the community brings the equine industry to the doorstep of those who might not otherwise have had an introduction to the equine community.

Will you please join me in campaigning for Dana Hokana to receive the award? She is a woman of honor, an elite competitor, and a great lady who gives a lot back to the equestrian community. For example, she donated a set of DVDs as a raffle prize to our spring online horse show!

I think if someone wants to throw their money away at an "animal communicator," that is their private affair. But I do personally disapprove of the Kansas Horse Council engaging one to appear as a presenter at the next Equifest. Why have a "psychic", instead of a legitimate, published scientific authority in the field of equine psychology and behavior? Why not instead someone like Marthe Kiley-Worthington for example?

Mary Ingwerson, you are a hero!

One of our Quarter Horse Times community members reported, "This weekend in an AQHA show in Hutchinson,KS, the judge stopped an exhibitor that was jerking his horse's mouth several times. She then stopped the show and told us all that we would be reported for any abuse she saw. I thanked her after the show. So, there are some good signs in the horse show world."

That judge was Mary Ingwerson, who is licensed by several associations. Please call, write, or email to THANK HER for her concern for humane treatment of Quarter Horses in the show ring! Her contact information can be found by doing an internet search for her name and "judges list."

Wyoming has passed landmark legislation which will allow horse processing as an option for disposal.

What we like about this legislation is that it addresses concerns about humane animal handling.

Interesting also is that Wyoming also joined the list of states that have passed sovereignty resolutions.
